Directions for use
Two-way type (Foley catheter)
Prepare the catheter for patient use
1. Remove catheter from its sterile pouch using an aseptic technique visually inspect the catheter for any mechanical damage. If a trial inflation of the balloon is carried out ensure the balloon to insertion. Only sterile water should be used to fill the balloon.
Insert and remove the catheter
2. Inform patient or their family the cause to use foley catheter, use methods, possible discomfort, methods to ease discomfortable symptom , possible complication and nursing after catheterization.
3. Check size and specification if it is correct, check the package and balloon whether they are damaged.
4. Inform patient to take a deep breath when insert the catheter. Before use of the product, wash hands thoroughly with soap and water.
5. Connect the catheter with urine bag and release the foley catheter.
6. Disinfect the patient's perineum.
7. Choose right lubricant to lubricate the catheter.
8. Insert the foley catheter gently. When urine start comes out, insert 5cm~6cm more.
9. Inflate the balloon with appropriate volume sterile water, pull out the catheter gently.
Remove the catheter
1. Explain the procedure to the patient.
2. Before catheter removal, wash hands thoroughly with soap and water and wear clean gloves.
3. Position patient and place waterproof pad under patient.
4. To deflate catheter balloon: Push a syringe without needle into the valve. Back off luer lock or slip tip syringe to 0.5mL and insert into the inflation port. Allow the pressure within the balloon to force the plunger back and fill the syringe with water (if slow or no deflation is noticed, re-seat the syringe gently).Use only gentle aspiration to encourage deflation if needed as vigorous aspiration may collapse the inflation lumen, preventing balloon deflation.
5. If the balloon doesn't deflate and permitted by hospital protocol, the valve arm may be severed. If this fails, contact adequately trained professional for assistance, as directed by hospital protocol.
6. If balloon rupture occurs, care should be taken to assure that all balloon fragments have been removed from the patient.
7. Deflate the balloon by inserting the syringe into the inflation valve, close the catheter or urine bag and gently pull out the catheter.
Product safe disposal
Used Catheter and its handling of accessories should be disposed in sanitary container to prevent possible contamination and cross infection.
Sterile Expiration Date
The expiration date is 5 years after sterilization.
