Operating steps:
1. Check if the connections of each part of the sputum aspirator are complete and if there is any air leakage. After inspection, clean the skin tube to ensure it is intact and free of foreign objects.
2. Prepare all sputum suction items, place them on the bedside workbench, explain the next steps to the patient, explain the functions of individual items, and prepare the patient.
3. Before inserting the suction catheter, turn on the suction switch. But it is necessary to relax the T-tube side hole, insert the suction tube into the trachea at a certain depth, and immediately close the side hole for suction. During the suction process, the suction tube needs to be slowly lifted from bottom to top and rotated left to right for suction.
4. The sequence of inserting a sputum aspirator at once is all parts of the oral vestibule, cheeks, and throat. If it is difficult to aspirate phlegm in the oral cavity, it can be inserted into the nasal cavity, but it is important to avoid patients with skull base fractures. The sequence is from the vestibule of the nasal cavity to the trachea of the lower nasal cavity to the throat (approximately 20-25cm), and the secretion is sucked out section by section.
5. If there is a tracheal intubation or tracheotomy, an intubation or cannula can be inserted to aspirate phlegm. Comatose patients can use tongue plates or mouthpieces to assist
